Cicada waiting for nightfall

That was the first time I've found a cicada on a leaf and not just the shell. If you've ever been to the South, the sound of cicadas is something you carry with you forever. For me, the sound of them make the temperature about 10 degrees hotter!

About phempton

I grew up in Houston and Austin Texas before moving to Seattle Washington about 10 years ago. I live in a small house on Capitol Hill in Seattle with my very soon-to-be wife Beth. We love to garden and try new things all the time. Plenty of failures to go around! I still have a Southwest frame of mind and perpetually underestimate the cold and damp here when gardening. I develop software during the day and spend all my free time making this site better and meeting new people. It is my hope to transition out of the crazy software world and into a more meaningful career. That's why I started this site, to make a change for the better. So I Heart Gardening is basically maintained by me!
