    Michigan Moonflowers!

In Michigan, Moonflowers are periennials and this year I am growing some really beatiful ones including double purple/whites.  I bought the plants (6 of them) for $2 each at my local farmers' market and have them planted next to my front porch.  The porch has a hammock, swing, and a small table and chairs for enjoying meals.  So, this year, I have this lovely scent of the moonflowers wafting up in the evenings as I enjoy the very short summers here in Michigan on my front porch.

Sounds beautiful Judith! I have only tried the standard white Moonflowers and they always please. I just wish that I could get the seeds to germinate quicker. Here I just grow them as annuals and some years are better than others.

Patrick, looks like Judith's photos aren't working. Any ideas?

Looks like the kodak image site is blocking hotlinked images so there's not a lot we can do about it. I suggest uploading them to here as attachments or using Flickr.

I also love moonflowers and part of the reason is that they last only a few short hours and then they're gone. It is amazing that these flowers will unfold right in front of your eyes in a matter of minutes, and then the next morning they're wilted. I always feel happy though when I see more unopened buds on the vines.

Time to go and see if I can get some to germinate in my greenhouse before August!

    Patrick
