    Growing different varieties of basil

I planted four types of basil a few weeks ago that were sent to me:

Mrs. Burns Lemon - small pointy but very strong lemon
Dark Opal - Dark green to purple leaves
Genovese - Very hardy with sweet large leaves
Green Ruffles - Large serrated leaves

All of these were sent for FREE from the very nice folks at heirloomclub.com
Finally they germinated in my greenhouse and are getting started. I can't wait until midsummer when these become delicious!

Does anyone else have experience growing basil? Who knew there were so many different varieties.

Would like to know about Green Ruffles. I tried some from seed several years ago and they just molded because I started them too early.Sad Not enough sun to get them going. I guess I forgot that they are mediterranean type herbs.

I lost all but the green ruffles which only produced one plant from several dozen seeds. I didn't do a great job of starting them and they went moldy. But I think I'll try again soon with some leftover seeds from the same batch.
