    Earth Boxes

I just came across these pictures of the containers I had last year. I did not have a yard at that time, just a deck, and I loved these 2 earth boxes! The one with flowers stayed lush all summer, on a hot deck in full sun, and the herb garden was prolific, and somewhat satisfied my need to "harvest"                                               My EarthBox Herbs           This year I have a shady yard, and so I'm going to plant veggies in the Earth Boxes.  Anybody else use them? How do they work with tomatoes and vine-type veggies?

I'm curious. How hot did the deck get? My wife and I are moving back to Austin this summer and I remember that the summer sun on an exposed desk was just brutal. We want to plant a nice herb garden and these might make a really nice option. All the herbs that I like need that hot sun but will croak if their roots go dry.

I am in Virginia, where we can have a string of 90 degree days, and the deck was in full sun. You just have to keep the water reservoir full. I think it holds about 2 gallons of water, and has a tube that makes it easy to fill with a hose. I would just top it off every day or two. I went on vacation for a week, and everything was wilted when I got home, but bounced right back after being watered.
