    Growing a small cacti

Does anybody know how long it takes an agave cactus to grow to say 3' or 4' across? In idea conditions. I bought one of those small blue-green ones at the garden center but forgot to ask how quickly they grow.

My guess would be that it takes many years (10?) to get that big.

Under ideal conditions a small agave (6" across) would grow to be 3' across in about 5-6 years. Of course, rain, soil conditions, temperature, amount of sun, humidity and even type of agave all play a big part in how rapidly the agave will grow. I had an agave while living in Louisiana and it seemed to grow before my eyes. Yet, the same plant has struggled here in Arkansas. Good luck!
