Is this Chitapla-pink dawn? Looks just like the one on page 8. If it is then I'm sorry for wasting everyones time.

Sorry, Catalpa not Chitapla.

Do the leaves look like big thin dark green green elephant ears? Do the seeds look like long green cigars? I can't tell a catalpa without looking at the leaves and seeds.

Yes, it does look like a chitalpa flower. The chitalopa is a cros from a catalpa and a chilopsis. Hope this helps

I thought it was a rododendron, is it in the same family.....very similar looking blossoms and buds.

It's not a rododendron. Their flowers open flattter whereas these are tubular plus the stamen(?) are nothing alike. Have to stick with Chitalpa.

Looks just like the Rhodedendron in my front yard!

I'm sure if you look closely at the inside of this flower you'll see it matches Chitalpa and not a Rhododendron. They look similar but different. (oxymoron lol). Boy this is fun!

More specifically Catalpa speciosa.

If you do a search under chitalpa+flowers+photos on page 1 at the bottom you will find a photo of chitalpa. Courtesy of public.asu.edu. I think the photos are a match.

The tree is called Chitalpa tashkentensis. It is a cross between Catalps bignonioides and Cjilopsis linearis.

Thank you anonymous, your identification is the same one I made under my previous search. By George, I think we've got it :).
