The leaves look like verigated pittisporum.

i agree with the leaves looking like pittisporum. maybe it is a male/female species and it blooms?? enjoy the pretty little flower while it's there!

I'm with you on the leaves.

If you live in Hawaii, California, or somewhere in the Southeast, it's probably a pittosporum. Plus the bloom has five petals. That's so weird that it's purple because usually they are always white.

my guess is a weigela florida variegata
Anonymous on 5/24/2008 1:51:22 AM
I think the dark green on these leaves are more on one side than the weigela. It's seems to be almost the entire center part of the leaf. Also it's flowers are tubular and these don't seem to be. That I base on the fact we don't ge to see the entire flower and the spacing of the petals. I could very well be wrong. At least you came up with something to check on and it is pretty close. I have to disagree with you though, sorry. :)

on the weigela l am looking at it has the dark green in the middle of the leaf and the flowers are tubular, l'm sticking to that. what is the texture of the leaf if it is waxy l could be wrong.

That's the same one I was looking at. What I meant was this plant seems to have the green on only one side of the leaf and that these flowers don't seem tubular like the weigela. We don't have a good side view of this flower and the petals don't seem the same as the weigela. Sorry for any confusion. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. :) :)
I mean no offense. I think a waxy texture would be smooth and maybe thicker than a "normal" leaf ( whatever that is). This one might remain a "who-dunnit".

Schefflera arbicola -variegated.Sorry for not being with u fellows.Hey Sheryl would like to know whether this name corresponds to the plant photo I asked about. It wud be great help
Ikram on 5/26/2008 11:53:39 PM
The Schefflera can have variegated leaves. In fact it can have all kinds of variegated leaves, so I looked for the flower on the plant itself. I found nothing that looked like yours. For a very slight comparison you could say they look along the the lines of say a lilac. I'm going to send you a photo of what I mean. It's too bad about the flower. There are so many different leaves of this plant. This plant is also known as an umbrella plant so I think the leaves are too large anyways and compared to this photo, I think they are too thin as well. Sorry. Still stumped.

Is this a low growing, spreading type plant? It looks like variegated periwinkle to me- i'm looking a a cutting of my plant right now and the bloom is very similiar
Anonymous on 5/28/2008 12:35:21 PM
The flowers on the periwinkle are more square and seem flimsier than this flowers. The periwinkle leaves also seem thinner and wider than these. I don't think it is a periwinkle either but gee that's a really pretty flower they have.
