Note: The leaves as you can see resembles the fig leaves and the inflorescence as seen in the pic has quite a sweet soft fragrance.

It's a geranium I think.

Not too sure but looks like a hybrid Begonia to me!

I thought so too, Cowboy, because of the leaves. The flower itself is also similar to the geranium. Can'tfind one to match it to though

Do you have any other name to search under.I tried a searsh using these different names Mustanda, Mustanda sunil, Sunil and none of them produced any flowers. Although I did find a photgrapher with the name Sunil. Some really nice work.

I did a search on snowballs (another common name for dombeya)and found them to be very silmilar as well. The only thing is the dombeya's seem to hang down whereas Ikram flower stands upright on it's stem. That's why I bypassed those and hydrangeas.

I'm having a hard time with my enter key today. LOL If you go to www.picsearch.com and enter dombey as your search word, you'll see some that are off the bush. You'll also notice that they still seem to hang down on their stalks instead of standing upright as in the photo Ikram submitted.

I think I'm changing my opinion. It looks more like a tropical Hydrangea (maybe dombeya wallichii). This is more what the flowers, the leaves, and the stems look like. Maybe Ikram held up the stem to take a picture of it? I wish we could see more of the plant... What do you think Sherryl?
Cowboy on 5/28/2008 8:12:53 PM
Yes, Ikram send us another photo and I will put it right up on the site
phempton on 5/28/2008 8:29:16 PM
For sure Cowboy. If that's the case I'm with you guys 100%.
That was the only problem I could see, that the dombeya hung down. Other than that I think it fits perfectly. That was a good thought. It never occured to me that Ikram might have been holding the flower!
sherryl on 5/28/2008 8:35:45 PM
Just to confuse...I still think its from the begonia family, I used to have one just like it growing as a house plant... Ikram have you ever tried to take a cutting, I wondered if the stem was soft...
Jay on 5/29/2008 3:01:11 AM
Jay, your right I have seen Begonia blooms that are very similar but I just can't find leaves that fit. Sorry
sherryl on 5/29/2008 5:55:49 AM
I'm with cowboy.... it looks like a hydrangea to me, too.

definitely Dombeya, in the Malvaceae, look at how the anthers are arranged, Begonias dont have palmate leaves like that, neither do Hydrangea, plus Hydrangea flowers are teeny tiny, and just the modified leaves underneath are colored. This plant has large showy flowers. Lets thank Ann and put this one to rest.
Anonymous on 5/29/2008 12:29:56 PM
Yes, I still agree it's dombeya. If you do a hydrangea+dombeya search you wil find that dombeya is a tropical hydrangea. Therefore it is a Dombeya which is a Tropical Hydrangea so therefore both responses are correct. I also agree that Ann made the correct call and the plant has been identified to the best of our abilities. Working together, ain't it great? :)
sherryl on 5/29/2008 12:48:47 PM
thanx indeed its a Dombeya rotundifolia I suppose.
