That looks like a fancy coreopsis to me...

I think maybe it is a Helenium. They come in shades of red and yellow. They are perennial, but mine have always been short-lived, yet I like them a lot. Thompson and Morgan have seeds, and lots of nurseries sell plants.

The common name is Helen's flower, or Sneezeweed- but they don't make you sneeze, just the dried flower was ground for snuff.

Seems like Helenium have lanceolate leaves.
I think that this is a threadleaf coreopsis.

Your probably right- the leaves do look like a threadleaf coreopsis. I know they are breeding them with new colors, now.

with this fancy color I can see how you would call them Helenium.

This is most definetely sneezeweed. Blooms in late summer and should come back for you. Give it another try.
