Note: i was giving this plant as a gift, I am not sure about it..I have put it in a new pot and seems to be doing good....but now it it getting some brown spots on the lower leaves..any help will be great

it's a philodendron cultivar...

those brown spots look like water has been spilt on the leaves during watering. Does it normally stand in the sun? If so, try to water from below. Shiny leaf plants can be cleaned with a spot of milk in warm water and gently pass over each leaf. This will add to the shine. Julie
