Gentiana lutea (Great Yellow Gentian)

Note: Any idea what this flower is? It was quite common up a mountain in the Italian lakes where it stood out because of its height (about 18 in or so) compared to the rest of the growth.

i thought that too but the leaves are opposite, and veratrum's arent... the leaves are really similar though...

i think maybe it's Gentiana lutea, or "great yellow gentian"
